DiasporaDNA Story Center & The Luster Company Unite for Black History Month Initiative

In celebration of Black History Month, DiasporaDNA Story Center has partnered with The Luster Company to embark on a groundbreaking archival assessment of the Montgomery Collection Archive. This vast collection, stewarded by DiasporaDNA, represents over 50 years of Black cultural preservation, originally curated by the late Dr. Elvin Montgomery Jr.

The Montgomery Collection contains 5,000+ historical artifacts, including books, journals, photographs, HBCU yearbooks, and ephemera that document Black heritage across the African American, Caribbean, and African diasporas. The archive will serve as an educational and cultural hub for the global majority.

The Luster Company, led by Dominique Luster, will conduct an in-depth assessment of the collection, ensuring its preservation while uncovering new opportunities for storytelling and interpretation. As DiasporaDNA continues to grow, it seeks community partners to cohost programs and events inspired by the Montgomery Collection. This initiative marks a powerful step toward ensuring that Black history remains visible, valued, and celebrated for generations to come.
